The Storm Water Operations Division, functioning within the Public Works Department, has been established to assist the City of Muscatine as it faces the dual challenge of maintaining its aging storm water infrastructure in the older portion of the city and overseeing an expanding drainage system in developing areas. The Division will provide funding for the construction of needed storm water improvements, as well as operate and maintain all existing and future facilities.
The Division will utilize the funds for storm water management projects needed by the city. These projects will help maintain and improve the existing storm water system, as well as improve water quality in all of the streams throughout Muscatine. Proposed funding will allow for work to begin on:
- Projects from the city’s Capital Improvement Projects list,
- Creating an inventory of the storm water collection system components,
- Maintaining and repairing those components,
- Repairing current erosion damage,
- Preventing future erosion damage, and
- Implementation of several of the Best Management Practices required by the Phase II regulations.
These six (6) Best Management Practices will form the basis for the city’s Storm Water Management Plan:
As Muscatine, along with cities across the nation, implements our Storm Water Management Program pollutants carried into our streams and river by runoff from storm water will be reduced, thereby preserving a healthy environment for everyone to enjoy. |
