Storm Drain Stenciling is a very good way to remind your neighbors that storm water flows untreated to our creeks and river.  Many people assume that the water is treated like other household or commercial wastewater but that is not the case.

When rainfall or snow melt runs off of an impervious surface it picks up and carries a wide variety of pollutants into our storm water system. These pollutants then flow into our local waterways. Some examples of storm water runoff pollutants include:

Detergent                                                                         Fertilizer
Pet waste                                                                         Leaves
Grass clippings                                                               Motor oil
Antifreeze                                                                        Cleaners
Paints                                                                               Pesticides
Sediment                                                                          Plastic

Do Not Pollute-Drains to Waterway

The city encourages volunteer groups, such as scouts, high school students, or other special interest groups to organize a stenciling project.
