Muscatine Fire Department - 128 Years of Dedication
The Muscatine Fire Department is a 37 paid member department consisting of 3 shifts, Ambulance Billing Manager, and the Fire Chief. We also have a part-time secretary. The fire department also employs 8 part time ambulance attendants.
The Muscatine Fire Department serves approximately 145 square miles for ambulance service and tiers with ambulance services in surrounding Iowa and Illinois counties. We also provide fire services to the entire City of Muscatine and its citizens as well as HAZMAT for Muscatine, Louisa, Washington, and Henry counties.
In 2009 we responded to 3,414 calls. The fire department invests numerous hours each year in EMS training, fire training, HAZMAT training, high angle rope rescue training, and confined space training as well as other types of training from outside instructors brought into the department. We also do numerous hours in Public Education to all the grade schools in Muscatine and routine Fire Inspections in Muscatine.
Our department provides emergency response to all types of emergencies: fire, emergency medical, medical assist, hospital to hospital transfers, motor vehicle accidents, automatic fire alarms, hazardous materials, trench rescue, rope rescue, confined space, gas spills, and mutual aid request from other volunteer departments for Jaws of Life and water support provided by Engine 302. Also in 2009 members took part in training for TEMS.
The Muscatine Fire Department has the ability to call additional personnel and equipment from fire departments in surrounding counties through the use of mutual aid agreements with these departments. .
