The Finance department is responsible for managing all financial operations of the City of Muscatine. The primary function of the Finance department is to maintain the City's financial records in accordance with generally accepted governmental accounting principles and to prepare the necessary financial data for the City Council, boards and commissions, City Administrator and department heads.

Two significant projects for the Finance department each year are the annual budget and annual financial reports. The City was awarded its 25th consecutive Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada for 2009/2010 City Budget.

The City was awarded its 18th consecutive Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the year ended June 30, 2008. The CAFR for the year ended June 30, 2009 will again be submitted for this award.
